The Beginning

Starting out with a long one.

In New York. In Brooklyn!
School starts on the 22nd, so
I have a bit of time on my hands.

Started out that time by being sick. Woot!
Started feeling it at the airport already. A kind of
dizzyness that I thought would pass. It didn't, and I
got really not-well for a couple of days.

Combined with wanting to take care of
everything (groceries, medical check-ups)
it took even longer to recover.

Either way, I'm sitting in my room, which is quite big
and I am the only one who has his own bathroom,
so that feels quite luxurious. The apartment doesn't
compare with Vancouver really, but being 20 min.
from Manhattan for only $25 (I'm currently paying $650)
more a month than in Vancouver makes it kind of worth it.

I got one roommate so far, a standup comedian by night
and security officer at the Met by day.

The part of brooklyn where I live is kind of ghetto:
I can tell you that I have already learned how to jimmy a lock with
an Air Miles card. This was because I locked myself and the girl
I'm renting from, out of the apartment, but that's another story.

All in all, I'm kind of feeling scared and excited at the same time.
I will try to post pictures when I can.

Good luck Tobias,

I just came back from a semester in Chicago at the School of the Art Institute and it was a mind-blowing experience! ... It is quite a roller coaster ride, to say the least. :)

Make this trip what you want it to be and make the most of it, no matter what!

Take care and be in touch,

Benjamin

Yay, a blog is a must!
Vancouver already misses you a bunch! I took a good look at the Polaroid on the Larch house wall last night and thought of you and oh the fond memories.
Take care until we meet again. Will tell you later where the cheap Midtown Chinese restaurant joint is, just in case you miss Vancouver, xo!

Oh God! I just wrote you a manifesto, and I erased it by mistake... soooo stupid!

I'm glad to hear from you.. it sucks that you got sick... I hope you're feeling better! I'm sure it's just the stress. I'm also sick...waiting for this visa is driving me nuts! I hope I get it...

His name is David... he's Colombian, and he is going to the Fashion Institute. He lives in Manhattan and his brother Mateo who is also amazing lives in the suburbs.... I'll let them know you're there, and maybe you guys can go for a beer or something. It doesn't hurt to meet new people...

Have fun and enjoy every minute... don't sleep too much... that's what eternity is for... just have fun!

Keep in touch, and I can't wait to see photos from your adventure.

Take Care,

Camila
